This is a new concept for me, but I’m subscribed to a number of things over Substack, Bluesky, Youtube,, etc., and I have things I think are worth sharing. However, I keep thinking I’m going to incorporate it into some other piece(s), but that just keeps me too far behind. I need to focus on what’s in front of me, so I’m trying to come up with a plan which does require me to be more on my game, but it seems to be where I want to go, so may as well give it a shot…

Random Quotes

(not everyone is worth worshipping, but some points are hard to ignore)

  • “Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth.” -Henry David Thoreau
    • Yes. This. Well… money would be helpful, and love is kind of a necessity, but screw fame.
  • “I cannot make you understand. I cannot make anyone understand what is happening inside of me. I cannot even explain it to myself.” -Franz Kafka
    • I enjoy how it expresses where depression can take you.
  • “I wonder how many people I’ve looked at all my life and never seen.” -John Steinbeck
    • I try to look.
  • Several from HP Lovecraft:
    • “No new horror can be more terrible than the daily torture of the commonplace.”
      • Remember how Office Space was about the distaste with the capitalistic ideas of working the same repetitive job over and over again, all so someone else can get more money? Fight Club. The Incredibles.
    • “The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.”
      • This feels almost prescient to me now.
    • “The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.”
      • 100%
    • “I am perfectly confident that I could never adequately convey to any other human being the precise reasons why I continue to refrain from suicide—the reasons, that is, why I still find existence enough of a compensation to atone for its dominantly burthensome quality.”
      • HPL was not without his own demons, and indeed the more I have learned about his existence the more I wonder just how near sanity he actually was. I have reasons that I could easily articulate, and some may recall, now 3 years ago, where I brought up True Detective and the quote “I tell myself I bear witness, but the real answer is that it’s obviously my programming, and I lack the constitution for suicide.” I’ve had plenty of reasons to end this physical existence, but I no longer have the interest, and indeed I have too much else worth living for.
  • “I love my rejection slips. They show me I try.” -Sylvia Plath
    • This reminds me of a Better Than Ezra song, “Live Again,” specifically the line “I love it when we fight, it makes me think at least you still care.”
  • “I am out with lanterns looking for myself.” -Emily Dickinson
  • “When you are consumed by thoughts, write. When you are uninspired, read.” -Stephen King

Anti-Capitalist Commentaries

“The top 1% have pocketed over $50 trillion from the bottom 90% since the 1970s. We’ve funded their golden towers through stagnant wages, rising rents, and medical debt. They get private islands; we get told to ‘work harder.’ That’s not ambition, it’s organized theft.” –Greedbane
From Time
From Common Dreams
General Inequality Info

“A country that forces Human Beings to beg for food at pantries in order to avoid taxing the wealthy is a morally bankrupt SHITHOLE.” –Tony Michaels

“Undocumented immigrants paid over $70 billion in taxes last year. Jeff Bezos & Amazon paid ZERO. Who are the real welfare queens?” –Tony Michaels

“We live in a society that loves feel good stories about people coming together to help members of their community that are in need, but scoff at the idea of building a system based on that very same concept.” –The Peaceful Revolutionary

“There is no kind of government more deformed than that in which the wealthiest are regarded as the noblest.” -Cicero, from Massimo Pigliucci

The Healthcare System

Link to some details. Looks like his Twitter/X account is gone, too.

“Not one school shooter has ever been given the death penalty. The US government is seeking the death penalty for Luigi Mangione. One rich CEO is worth so much more in this country than any child.” -from Cara Mia

“The poor killing the rich is terrorism. The rich killing the poor is business.” -from Openly Fae

And Finally…
