I’m a fan of Tolkien, but I admit I did not begin this journey until the Lord of the Rings films started coming out. I had watched some Bakshi when I was younger, but it wasn’t as inspiring as the immersive experience Peter Jackson, et. al., taking over New Zealand to put together a much… Read More My Tolkien Middle-Earth Collection
Another entry from my Little Black Book comes the basic tenets of Buddhism: Three Universal Truths, Four Noble Truths, and the Noble Eightfold Path – collectively, Dharma. I will admit that when I was on a journey of self-discovery after my turn from Christianity, Buddhism felt like a really good alternative to me. However, like… Read More Three, Four, & Eight
This… will not a short topic. It will be long, grueling, and wildly unprofessional as I am hardly qualified as an expert. Barely a layperson in the area… However, what I am is willing to learn and willing to question. Oh, so what’s the topic about… existence. Simple stuff really. The reason for this is… Read More How Did We Get Here? (#1)
I thought I’d take this moment to discuss my favorite character in screen history – Rustin Spencer “Rust” Cohle from the first season of HBO’s “True Detective.” There are many reasons for this – not only is he a badass and a good detective, not only is he a damaged person with darkness in his past, but… Read More The Pessimistic Palate Cleanser
As part of the Little Black Book series, we are presented with material written by Don Miguel Ruiz, the claim in the book itself is it’s all based on the ancient wisdom of the Toltec people, who lived in central Mexico for the first few centuries of the 2nd Millennium CE. I think Hemingway used them, but I don’t know what kind of shotgun he used so maybe not the best… Read More My Little Black Book
What IS Normal Anyway? You can Google “definition of normal” and be presented with the Oxford definition: In terms of expected definitions, this one pretty well nails it. Conforms to a standard. It’s the usual or typical or even expected thing. Yet, this seems lacking to me… What Standard? By its very nature, the word… Read More “Normal”
Over the course of my career, I’ve been involved in a number of personality tests. These are given to help us reflect on ourselves as people, but also how best to interact with our co-workers who may be of a different segment of the given test. I have found these fairly interesting over the years, these… Read More The Pseudoscientific Pfun of Psychometrics
I wanted to get this out of the way for a pretty simple reason – this is the Internet, this is a public blog, and forums like this allow for anonymous or pseudonym hate to sneak in or permeate to its very heart. I don’t want it to show up here. Frustration? Sure. Anger? Probably.… Read More “Us” vs “Them”
This is a warning… I’m not going to pretend to get everything “right” and I’m not going to hide behind what I think or feel or question. I will be as upfront as I can be and will provide as much context and insight as possible for my entire train of thought. I’m also not… Read More Caveat Lector
